Day 131 - Trilobites

Today we went hunting for Trilobites.  What is a Trilobite you ask?  A fossil that is around 520 million years old!  Somehow we managed to find a few out in the mountains...

Through volleyball in Fernie I  a professional fossil hunter that was willing to share the location of one of his dig sites with us.  We managed to find it today and had a blast digging around the side of the mountain, cracking open rocks and occasionally finding a fossil or two.  Very cool trip to a world class Trilobite site.  Thank you Chris!

Here is a picture of the largest one we found.

The shale rock would break apart in your hands, occasionally unveiling a fossil like the one below.

The view from where we were digging.

The truck was barely stopped and Emily was already out looking for fossils.

On the way home we saw some mountain goats at a mineral lick.  There are two in the picture... can you find both of them?
